Jason has been recognised time and time again for his work in rock music, though he has worked in a variety of genres, including (but not limited to) indie, folk, jazz, pop, funk and classical. His productions are often complimented in the press for their lush textures, energy, dynamics, and powerful sounds.

Some examples of bands and artists he has worked with include: Fightstar, Reuben, As it is, Blitz Kids, You Me At Six, We Are The Ocean, Dinosaur Pile-up, Patrons, Marisa And The Moths, Sophie Lloyd, Bellevue Days, Don Broco, Senser, The Ghost Of A Thousand, Cars on Fire, Blakfish, Charlie Simpson, The Stanley Blacks, Fisherman's Friends, Bellowhead, Winterfalle and Tellison.

Jason has been credited with mentoring and helping to kick start the careers of several young bands.

Due to his natural perfectionist tendencies and the pride he takes in his work, he has a reputation for bringing out the best in those he works with.

EQUIPMENT

The set up is a true hybrid -

Jason loves his analog but he also uses state of the art digital technology. Jason uses Pro Tools software, and a huge array of classic analog hardware.

  • Classic Analog Calrec M-Series Console

    Custom 56 Channel Console

Sonically incredibly characterful - this is like a Neve 80 series for its preamps and SSL 4000E series for its EQ.  In fact this console actually takes Neve modules and has a few.

The compressor limiters are something else altogether.  It’s a very unique board with tons of vibe!

The rare and sought after M-series Calrec consoles are famous for the recordings of Minus the Bear, The White Stripes and many more.  This desk has the same Calrec ‘Polar’ preamps and EQ once installed in the console at Abbey Road Studio 3.

SMALL TOWN RECORDS

We massively appreciate all Jason's efforts, and I for one certainly know exactly how much he put into everything for Blitz Kids. The band love the mixes.

Sounds like a different recording altogether!

MATTHEW PRITCHARD

109s

I have now recorded more than 20 songs with Jason over 6 separate sessions, and his professionalism, musical knowledge and work ethic are second to none (how many producers would say, "We've still got 15 minutes of the session left, let's do some acoustic guitar"?)

Jason's attention to detail is hawk-like, his facilities are fantastic and the rich, meaty sounds he gets from the instruments (especially the guitars) are awesome. I can't recommend this studio enough.

Stakeout is a phenomenally well equipped studio and is the perfect fit for musicians/bands looking to work in a professional recording environment. With a variety of great sounding rooms, particularly for recording drums, you can’t go wrong. Plus, Jason is an exceptionably knowledgeable producer and his body of work speaks for itself.
