We regualarly recieve a large number of enquiries about the recording facilites that Stakeout Studios offer, so below we have provided answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question which is not answered here please feel free to contact us with your enquiry.
How many days in the studio do we need to book?
The amount of days you will need to book will depend on how many tracks you are looking to record. Due to the focus on delivering a quality product, we book a standard of 2 days per track.
Which studio will we be recording in?
All drums are recorded in the large Studio A live room which is also ideal for brass or string recordings. Each session later moves into the more intimate Studio B to record vocals and do the mixing and mastering of the tracks. Either studio can be used for recording guitars or bass.
What equipment do we need to bring to the recording session?
You must at least bring your own guitars (electric, acoustic and bass) ideally with spare strings, jack leads, effects pedals, spare batteries and any other instruments, sound FXs and samples you normally use. The studio already has some great guitar amps you can use free of charge for your session, alternatively you can bring your own. If you plan to use the in-house drum kit you will still need to bring your own cymbals, kick drum pedal and snare stand. If you are using your own kit it must be in good condition with new skins ready for your session. Guitars should ideally be professionally setup and intonation checked. We also advise vocalists to bring copies of their lyrics for themselves and the producer.
Are we allowed to bring in our own producer?
You are more than welcome to bring your own producer in for your recording however as Stakeout engineers are included in the price of the studio we recommend they run Pro-Tools and help with the session. They know how to get the best sound out of the studio space and equipment and will ensure your producer gets the sound he wants.
How and when do we pay for our booking and is there a deposit required?
We require a 50% deposit to confirm any studio bookings. The remainder of the studio bill is to be paid on the final day of your session. Please see the ‘Make A Booking Request’ page for full details.
Are we able to cancel our booking?
Yes, you can cancel your booking by giving us a minimum of 60 days notice and we will refund any deposits paid. Should you cancel with less than 60 days notice from the first day of your session, we will be unable to refund any deposits. Where no deposit has yet been received, but the booking confirmation agreement has been signed by you, a charge of 50% (unless otherwise agreed) of your total booking cost shall still apply should you cancel within 60 days.
Is there any accommodation at the studio?
Unfortunately we are not able to allow anyone to stay overnight at the studio. However there are plenty of hotels or B&Bs you can stay nearby. Go to our useful links page for accommodation suggestions.
Is there food available at the studio?
We supply free tea and coffee and now also have a mini shop at the studio. Alternatively you can bring your own food to the studio. We have kitchen facilities that include a microwave, fridge, freezer, sink, kettle and a range of plates, bowls and cutlery etc.
Are we able to come and see the studio before we book?
Yes you are welcome to check out the studio. Please contact us to arrange a time.
How long do you keep our recording session files for?
We keep session files for a minimum of a month however we recommend bringing your own hard drive to the studio so you can take away your own backup, in case you want to make any changes at a later date.
